Butch Lacy wrote Tore Mortensen in May 2014:
“This is a piece I composed for the Bob Rockwell Quartet and Radioens Underholdnings Orchestra, “Through the Window, Through the Door”. Composed and recorded in 1984. Bob on saxes, Jesper Lundgaard, bass, Ukkis Uttoila, drums and I’m on Fender Rhodes. This was to be one of the very first productions in the, at that time, brand new, Studio 3.
There came a MAJOR problem, right from the start! The air-conditioning wasn’t adjusted properly and some members of the orchestra complained of cold winds blowing down their necks! Now the original idea was that an orchestra and a fiery jazz quartet could record together, same time, same place! But, that won’t how it happened! The production was moved to Studio 2. The recording went well! The quartet’s playing was totally happening!
Jesper plays the fucking greatest bass solo I ever heard! I was given a board mix on a cassette tape and that is what you hear in the link below. DR determined the tape couldn’t be mixed, for some reason, and they never mixed it and it has never been heard and the tapes were destroyed. Gone for all time! But, I had the raw mix and someone, years later, put in on a cd and this is the link I send. I hope you can play it! Man, I hope you can play it and will save it from oblivion! I sure hope you can!
I have a couple of other pieces that I really hope you can save from oblivion, also!”
Tore Mortensen saved the recording and here it is available to listen and enjoy. Thank you.
